Claude AI and its associated services experienced an outage this afternoon, according to a report from Anthropic. The disruption affected the API, console, and the AI assistant itself.
Users on GitHub and Hacker News noted issues with Claude around 12:20 ET. Eight minutes later, Anthropic issued a status update confirming that its API, console, and Claude AI had gone offline. At the time of writing, the company stated that several corrective measures had been implemented and they were monitoring the results.
"We noticed a very brief disruption to our API before 9:30 AM PT today," an Anthropic spokesperson told TechCrunch. "However, services were quickly restored."
Errors on the Anthropic platform are not uncommon, with several incidents reported over the past few months, particularly involving Claude and its models.
As Claude users waited for the system to come back online, some humorously speculated about what they should do next. One GitHub user joked that the software engineering community was now left with nothing to do, while another on Hacker News quoted what someone had said during a similar incident previously: "No, I have to use my brain again, like in December 2024, and write 100% of the code myself like a primitive human."
