ChatGPT Now Shows Ads to Free and Go Users, with Option to Remove Daily Message Limits

2026-02-10

OpenAI is rolling out ChatGPT ads for U.S. users. The test targets logged-in adult users on the free and "Go" tiers. Meanwhile, the Professional, Business, Enterprise, and Education plans will remain ad-free. Free users can opt out of seeing ads, but doing so will reduce their daily message quota.

OpenAI states that this decision stems from high infrastructure costs. The company emphasizes that ads will not affect ChatGPT's responses, and conversations will remain private. The ads users see will be based on topics, prior chat history, and interactions.

Users under 18 will not see any ads, and ads will not appear on sensitive topics such as health or politics. Users can hide individual ads, delete ad-related data, and adjust personalization settings. OpenAI notes that advertisers receive aggregated performance statistics but cannot access chat logs or personal data.
