Alibaba is entering the consumer smart eyewear market with its new Quark AI glasses, priced starting at RMB 4,699 (approximately USD 660). Pre-orders opened on October 24, with deliveries scheduled for December. Powered by Alibaba’s Qwen large language model and Quark’s multimodal AI capabilities, the glasses offer features such as hands-free calling, music playback, and real-time translation. Alibaba positions this device as a direct rival to Meta’s AI-powered smart glasses, leveraging a more robust suite of AI models compared to Meta’s Llama series.

In addition to the smart glasses, Alibaba has also launched a new AI-powered chat assistant within the Quark app. This virtual assistant supports both text and voice inputs and can perform tasks like photo editing and task management. With these dual launches, Alibaba is positioning itself alongside major players such as Meta, Xiaomi, and OpenAI in driving innovation in consumer-facing AI hardware and software.
