Elon Musk's xAI Sues Apple and OpenAI Over Anticompetitive Conspiracy

On Monday, Elon Musk's X and xAI filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, alleging that the two companies conspired to stifle competition.

"To protect its smartphone monopoly, Apple has partnered with OpenAI, the company that benefits the most from suppressing AI competition and innovation," the lawsuit stated, referring to Apple's integration of ChatGPT into its systems through collaboration with OpenAI.

This legal action is part of an ongoing dispute between Musk and Sam Altman, who continue to publicly criticize each other. Musk, who co-founded and previously co-chaired OpenAI, had previously sued to block the organization's transition into a for-profit entity. Additionally, he submitted an unsolicited $97.4 billion acquisition offer for OpenAI, which was ultimately rejected.

Musk earlier this month posted anti-competitive allegations against OpenAI and Apple on X, claiming, "No AI company other than OpenAI could possibly reach the number one spot on the App Store."

The partnership between Apple and OpenAI was announced last June, with the expected rollout of collaborative features set for December.

Neither OpenAI nor Apple immediately responded to requests for comment.
