Claude AI, developed by Anthropic, has now introduced a conversational voice mode currently in beta testing. This feature is exclusively available in English and can be accessed on both iOS and Android platforms. However, the desktop or web-based versions of Claude do not yet support this voice mode, and Anthropic has not disclosed a timeline for its future availability.
How to Use Claude's Conversational Voice Mode
The new voice functionality of Claude supports real-time audio interactions, enabling users to converse with the AI and receive spoken responses. When Claude replies, key points are displayed on the screen to improve clarity and understanding. The system also allows for seamless switching between text and voice input within the same chat session. For subscribers, Claude can interact with connected services like Google Docs, Calendar, and Gmail, providing voice-driven access to personalized content without needing to type.
A recent post by Anthropic stated: "Voice mode lets you have full voice conversations with Claude on your iOS and Android devices. This feature allows you to talk with Claude and hear responses via voice, making it easier to use Claude when your hands are busy but your mind is free."
To activate voice mode, users need to open the Claude app and tap the soundwave icon next to the microphone. After selecting a voice option from Buttery, Airy, Mellow, Glassy, or Rounded (designed for accessibility and comfort), the interaction begins. Once the user finishes speaking, they can click the upward arrow to send the message, prompting Claude to respond vocally. If needed, a stop button can interrupt the reply. Other tools like file uploads and camera access are available under the plus icon, while the X button exits voice mode.
Anthropic recommends using voice mode in a quiet environment with minimal background noise, speaking naturally at a regular pace, and breaking down complex information into smaller chunks.
