Google Launches More Affordable AI Plus Plan in Global Markets, Including the US

2026-01-28

Google announced on Tuesday that its more affordable Google AI Plus plan is now available in all markets where AI plans are offered. This includes the United States, priced at $7.99 per month.

This expansion brings the low-cost plan to 35 new countries and regions, following its earlier rollout in several global markets, starting with Indonesia in September last year.

The plan includes access to Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro within the Gemini app, the AI film-making tool Flow, research and writing assistance in NotebookLM, among other features. It also offers 200GB of storage and allows you to share your plan benefits with up to five other family members.

Google stated that existing Google One Premium 2TB subscribers will automatically gain access to all Google AI Plus plan benefits in the coming days.

Initially focused on emerging markets, the Google AI Plus plan is designed as the first step beyond free access to Gemini and other AI tools. It targets users who do not require or cannot afford the more expensive Google AI Pro plan, which is typically priced at $20 per month.

While the price of the Plus plan varies by region, its approximate $8 monthly cost in the US could attract a new, more casual user base to Google's AI technology. In other regions, the plan often costs less than $5 per month. For example, users in India pay ₹399 ($4.44) monthly.

At its initial launch, Google explained that the plan aims to bring Gemini, Veo, and other creative AI tools to emerging markets at a more accessible price point. It also aims to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT Go plan, priced at $8 per month in the US and even lower in some emerging markets. These plans are designed to attract a large online user base who may become regular AI customers over time, thereby boosting the company's AI adoption metrics.

Google indicated that, for now, subscribers can enjoy a 50% discount for the first two months as part of a promotional offer.
