2025-02-08

Recently, two major open-source projects under DeepSeek have achieved unprecedented breakthroughs on the GitHub platform. DeepSeek-V3, with its outstanding performance and innovation, successfully attracted 78,300 user stars, surpassing OpenAI's highly regarded Whisper project, which has 75,800 stars. At the same time, another open-source highlight from DeepSeek, DeepSeek-R1, also performed exceptionally well, securing 66,400 stars, surpassing OpenAI's official tutorial library, openai-cookbook, which has 61,600 stars.

This achievement marks DeepSeek's emergence in the international open-source community and highlights the strong capabilities of Chinese AI enterprises on the global stage. Earlier this month, DeepSeek’s dual-end applications topped the free charts of the App Store in both China and the United States, further proving their excellent market performance and user recognition.

The star count breakthrough on GitHub for DeepSeek not only acknowledges its technical prowess but also affirms its commitment to open-source principles. Among many players in the open-source model field, DeepSeek leads significantly, demonstrating unparalleled advantages. For example, in Meta's Llama series, the first-generation Llama received 57,500 stars, while Llama3 garnered only 28,200 stars; Alibaba's Qwen2.5 received 14,900 stars; Anthropic's technical documentation repository received 10,200 stars; and ZeroOne’s Yi project obtained approximately 7,800 stars.
