Meta is reported to be collaborating with Italian luxury fashion brand Prada on developing AI-powered smart glasses, according to a Tuesday report from CNBC. The official release timeline for this joint project remains undisclosed.
This partnership with Prada indicates Meta's strategic move to expand its smart glasses technology beyond its established collaboration with EssilorLuxottica - the global eyewear giant. While Prada maintains an independent position outside EssilorLuxottica's portfolio, the luxury brand has historically relied on the company for eyewear manufacturing and recently renewed their production agreement.
Meta has already sold millions of Ray-Ban Meta AI smart glasses. The company announced earlier this week a new collaboration with another EssilorLuxottica brand Oakley, as previously revealed by Bloomberg. The upcoming Oakley smart glasses are expected to be officially announced on Friday with an estimated retail price of around $360.
