Gemini is Google's proprietary AI chatbot developed to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT. Since its launch last year, Google has integrated Gemini into its range of products. It is now built into Google Pixel phones and activates during standard Google searches.
Gemini Now Available in Your Gmail Inbox
Earlier this year, Gemini was launched as a sidebar feature in Gmail. It is also available across Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. Initially, this functionality was restricted to paid users with Google One AI Premium subscriptions or those holding business, enterprise, and education accounts.
However, this new intelligent reply feature is now accessible to all Gmail users. Simply ensure that 'Smart features and personalization' are enabled in your email settings.
Since 2017, Smart Reply has been a hallmark feature of Gmail. It provides three concise response suggestions beneath each incoming email, helping users save time.
Google now declares: 'We understand that in some instances, users may prefer to respond with more than just simple replies like "Sounds good!" or "Yes, I'm handling it."
'Therefore, we are thrilled to introduce a new feature in Gmail—Contextual Smart Reply—that provides more comprehensive responses to accurately capture your message intent.'
How to Use Gemini Smart Reply
Once users have confirmed that smart features are enabled, they can click to reply to any received email. Subsequently, they will see several response suggestions generated by Gemini at the bottom of the screen.
Hovering over a reply displays a preview, and clicking on one will insert it into the email body for further editing.
The rollout of the enhanced Smart Reply started on September 26, but Google indicates that it may take over two weeks for all users to gain access to this feature.
