Google Photos Launches New Editor with AI Tools

2025-05-29

Google is celebrating the tenth anniversary of Google Photos by unveiling a newly designed editor. This redesign introduces new AI-powered features, including Reimagine and Auto Frame, which were previously exclusive to Pixel devices but are now accessible to a broader user base.

The Reimagine feature leverages generative AI to modify objects and backgrounds in photos through text prompts. For instance, you can request to replace a gloomy sky in a photo with a "clear blue sky."

Auto Frame provides suggestions for alternative photo compositions, whether through cropping, widening, or using generative AI to fill in blank areas.

Google states that the new editor consolidates all editing tools into one place while offering practical suggestions. With AI-driven recommendations, users can quickly edit photos using the new "AI Enhance" option, combining multiple effects like image sharpening and object removal.

Additionally, you can tap on specific parts of an image to receive editing tool suggestions for that area. For example, Google might recommend adjusting lighting or blurring the background.

Google plans to roll out the redesign globally to Android devices starting next month, with iOS updates following later this year.

The tech giant has also announced that albums can now be shared via QR codes, making it easier for people nearby to access them. You can print QR codes for group events, allowing anyone with the code to view and add photos to the shared album.
