Meta AI has reached 1 billion monthly active users across its applications, an achievement announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg during the company's annual shareholder meeting. According to CNBC, this significant milestone marks a doubling of the user base, growing from 500 million to 1 billion monthly active users as of September 2024.

"This year, our focus is on deepening user engagement and establishing Meta AI as the leading personal AI, with emphasis on personalization, voice interaction, and entertainment features," said Zuckerberg.

He further explained that Meta intends to expand its AI assistant capabilities while developing business models around it. As the assistant continues to evolve, Zuckerberg noted there will be "opportunities to introduce premium recommendations" or launch "subscription services allowing users to pay for additional computing resources."

If Meta introduces a paid subscription model, it would position itself to compete with popular AI chat applications like OpenAI's ChatGPT.

This milestone was achieved just one month after Meta launched its standalone Meta AI app.
