Hyundai Partners with DeepX to Develop Robot AI Platform

2026-04-22

Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics Lab has announced a strategic partnership with South Korean AI chipmaker DeepX to jointly engineer the foundational computing architecture for next-generation robotic systems.

According to an official statement released by DeepX on Tuesday, the collaboration will focus on developing a dedicated AI computing platform for advanced robotics, with a primary emphasis on deploying and optimizing Vision-Language-Action (VLA) and Vision-Language Models (VLM).

By leveraging these technologies, robots will achieve enhanced environmental perception and interaction through visual sensors and natural language commands. As industrial and commercial sectors accelerate their transition toward intelligent, autonomous systems, such capabilities are rapidly becoming a focal point for the industry.

To accelerate the deployment of these models, the partnership will concentrate on four core pillars: ultra-low-power AI semiconductor architecture, dedicated AI computing hardware for robotics, embodied AI software stacks, and specialized AI algorithm libraries for robotic applications.

DeepX has clarified that the ultimate vision of this initiative is to engineer a highly integrated, unified embodied AI computing platform tailored specifically for robotic applications.

Kim Rak-won, CEO of DeepX, emphasized in the announcement: "The AI industry is undergoing a paradigm shift from cloud-centric data centers to embodied intelligence. Low-power computing capable of efficiently operating AI within physical endpoints will serve as the critical cornerstone of future infrastructure."

The joint development will be anchored by DeepX’s proprietary DX-M2 processor, a chip engineered specifically to efficiently execute large language models and generative AI across robotic and industrial automation platforms.

Leveraging its high-efficiency AI computing architecture, the DX-M2 enables on-device edge inference, which is expected to drastically reduce latency while enhancing real-time decision-making and autonomous operational capabilities in robots.

DeepX positions its technology as a central hub within the embodied AI ecosystem. Driven by the commercialization of humanoid robots and automated systems, the company forecasts that the addressable AI semiconductor market could surpass $123 million by 2030.

Dong Jin-hyun, Head of Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics Lab, stated: "In the era of embodied intelligence, robots are emerging as the critical bridge connecting digital AI with the physical world. Our vision is to develop intelligent agents capable of seamless human-machine collaboration. To achieve this, we are strategically partnering with leading global technology firms to co-build an open, core technology ecosystem."
