Anthropic's Super Bowl Ad Satirizes AI Ads, Boosts Claude App into Top 10

2026-02-14

Anthropic's strategic Super Bowl commercials are yielding tangible results. The campaign, featuring dark humor where users seeking advice are redirected to dating sites for older women or shoe lifts, has resonated strongly with audiences. In the days following the broadcast, Anthropic's AI assistant Claude surged from position 41 into the top ten listings on the US App Store. By Friday, Claude secured the 7th spot—its highest ranking to date—demonstrating that its "ad-free" messaging strikes a chord with users.

Fresh intelligence from market analyst Appfigures reveals that Claude's combined iOS and Android downloads in the US totaled approximately 148,000 between Sunday and Tuesday. This represents the latest available data and marks a 32% increase compared to the preceding three-day period (Thursday to Saturday), which recorded around 112,000 installs.

The daily average downloads from Sunday to Tuesday reached 49,200, reflecting a 32% rise over the typical average of 37,400 for that same timeframe.

These metrics suggest that Anthropic's Super Bowl spot, coupled with the recent launch of the new Opus 4.6 model, has jointly driven attention toward the Claude application and its key differentiation from ChatGPT. The latter introduced advertisements for free users this week, precisely the scenario highlighted in Anthropic's commercials.

Consequently, the Claude app is garnering significantly more traction than during its initial mobile debut.

Launched on iOS in May 2024, this consumer-facing AI application initially received a relatively lukewarm reception. ChatGPT had secured nearly half a million installations within its first five days on mobile. In contrast, Claude recorded only 157,000 total global downloads in its first week, failing to break into the top 55 on the US App Store.

On a global scale, Claude also experienced growth over the past week. Combined downloads across the App Store and Google Play from Sunday to Tuesday increased by 15% compared to the previous Thursday through Saturday. However, Appfigures notes that this international growth rate is less than half of the surge seen in the US market.
