Google Launches New AI Tool "Deep Research" to Empower Gemini Premium Users with Detailed Report Generation

2024-12-12

Recently, Google unveiled a new AI tool named Deep Research. This tool allows users to utilize the Gemini chatbot to browse the internet and generate detailed reports based on the search results. Currently, the service is restricted to English and is available exclusively to Gemini premium subscribers.

Users can instruct Gemini to investigate specific topics, after which the chatbot creates a multi-step research plan for users to modify or approve. Gemini is designed to initially search online for relevant information snippets, then conduct related searches. This process is repeated several times to ensure the comprehensiveness of the information gathered.

Once the research is complete, Gemini compiles a report that highlights key findings and includes links to the source websites. Users have the option to request further elaboration on certain sections or adjust the content of the report. Additionally, the research report can be exported to Google Docs. This functionality is similar to the page feature offered by Perplexity, which generates customized web pages based on user prompts.

With the introduction of the Gemini 2.0 model, Deep Research has been highlighted as a key component, marking Google's entry into the era of "agency" AI systems capable of performing tasks for users. Besides Deep Research, Google also announced the release of Gemini Flash 2.0 to developers, which is a faster new generation of the chatbot. Currently, Deep Research is available only to Gemini premium users on the web. To access this new feature, users need to visit the Gemini interface and select "Gemini 1.5 Pro with Deep Research" from the model dropdown menu.
