OpenAI Introduces SearchGPT; ChatGPT iOS Update Enhances Search Experience

2024-11-27

As reported last month, OpenAI has officially launched SearchGPT, a search engine developed by OpenAI. It harnesses artificial intelligence technology to search the web and consolidate the best results. With the latest iOS ChatGPT update, using SearchGPT has become even more convenient.

The ChatGPT App Integrates SearchGPT Extension into Apple Shortcuts

The latest version of the app for iPhone and iPad introduces Apple Shortcuts integration, enabling users to create shortcuts to launch SearchGPT. Through this shortcut, users can start a new conversation within the ChatGPT app with SearchGPT enabled. Notably, these shortcuts can be added to the home screen and triggered via Siri.

While some users have been utilizing ChatGPT as a search engine, OpenAI has implemented specific upgrades to provide the functionalities we expect from search providers like Google and Bing. OpenAI explains:

ChatGPT is now capable of searching the web more efficiently than before. Users can swiftly and promptly receive answers accompanied by links to relevant online resources, which previously required using a search engine to locate these resources. This combines the benefits of a natural language interface while offering up-to-date sports scores, news, stock quotes, and other informational value.

ChatGPT automatically selects search webpages based on user queries, and users can also manually choose searches by clicking the web search icon.

To deliver real-time information, OpenAI has partnered with news and data providers and packaged this information into new dedicated designs tailored to specific content types.

Additionally, Apple will release iOS 18.2 to iPhone and iPad users in December, which adds ChatGPT and Siri integration features. This update will allow users to interact directly with the OpenAI chatbot from the Siri interface, also applicable to writing tools. Paid ChatGPT users can enjoy additional features by logging into their accounts in the iOS Settings app.

The new shortcut feature is available in the latest version of the ChatGPT app, which users can download from the App Store. It is important to note that SearchGPT is currently only available to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers.
