Google Search is introducing its AI Overviews feature to Spanish-speaking users, offering an AI-powered search experience, announced on Tuesday. This expansion brings Google's conversational search interface to a broader audience, allowing users to engage in natural language conversations, upload images, and explore complex topics in depth.
The Spanish rollout follows a major global expansion of AI Overviews in August, when Google made the feature available in 180 countries worldwide. Previously, it was only accessible in the U.S., U.K., and India. As part of the August launch, Google also introduced premium AI capabilities for its Google AI Ultra subscribers, enabling restaurant reservations via the AI interface. The company plans to extend support for other types of bookings and event ticket purchases in the future.
Google has been rapidly rolling out AI features across its products, often announcing multiple updates simultaneously. For instance, on the same day, the company revealed that conversational photo editing would now be available to all Android users in the U.S. It also announced the expansion of its more affordable Google AI Plus subscription plan, which debuted in Indonesia and will now launch in 40 additional countries. This follows closely on the heels of OpenAI’s recent introduction of the ChatGPT Go tier in India in August and in Indonesia on Tuesday.
ChatGPT Go offers a mid-tier subscription between OpenAI’s free version and the $20/month ChatGPT Plus premium plan. Subscribers benefit from usage limits that are ten times higher than the free tier, allowing more prompts, image generation, and file uploads. According to OpenAI, the plan also enhances ChatGPT's ability to remember past conversations, delivering more personalized responses over time.
Earlier this month, Google announced that AI Overviews now supports Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese languages.
With so many offerings, users may find it challenging to distinguish between various AI features, such as the difference between Google's AI Overviews and its AI-powered search summaries. The former offers a standalone, immersive chat experience directly with the Gemini AI, while the latter provides a quick AI-generated summary at the top of Google search results.
