Apple Launches New Smart Fitness Assistant for More Efficient Workouts

2025-06-10

Apple has launched Fitness Companion, an AI-powered personal trainer, at the 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference. This innovative tool gathers data from your current workouts and fitness history, such as pace, recorded mileage, completed activity rings, and training load, to provide real-time exercise guidance.

Integrated with Apple Intelligence on iPhone, Fitness Companion utilizes a text-to-speech model that transforms motivational cues into an engaging synthetic voice resembling a human fitness coach. Notably, this synthetic voice is constructed using voice data from Fitness+ trainers - the professionals who lead workouts in Apple's Fitness+ app and studio sessions. Users can select from various voice options to find their preferred coaching style.

The Fitness app on both Apple Watch and iPhone will receive updates, starting your runs with encouraging phrases. It will also highlight key moments like reaching four miles, achieving your fastest mile, and monitoring your average heart rate. At the end of each workout, the AI provides a comprehensive summary including average pace, heart rate metrics, and any additional milestones achieved, such as your first 10K running award.

Fitness Companion will initially be available in English, covering the most popular exercise categories.

As Apple emphasized throughout WWDC, Fitness Companion maintains a "personal and private" approach to user data.

Furthermore, Apple is introducing a new layout for the Fitness app on Apple Watch, featuring one-tap access to custom workouts and race routes. The app also incorporates enhanced media capabilities for music during workouts. Users can let Apple Music suggest optimal playlists based on their workout type or preferences, or choose from recommended playlists and podcasts according to their listening history and exercise patterns.
