Google Introduces Music Generation AI Model via Lyria RealTime API

2025-05-21

At the Google I/O 2025 conference, Google announced that it would offer the AI model of its experimental music creation app MusicFX DJ through an API.

The model, Lyria RealTime, is now available on Google's Gemini API and AI Studio platforms. It can blend different music genres, change instruments, and adjust the emotional tone of AI-generated music, giving users control over a song's key, tempo, brightness, and other characteristics.

The launch of Lyria RealTime via API comes amid a surge in AI-driven music applications. The market has seen numerous apps like Udio, Suno, and the recently introduced Riffusion.

Many of these have been considered controversial, especially those powered by models trained on unauthorized copyrighted music. However, Google positions Lyria RealTime as a collaborative tool for interactively composing, controlling, and even performing high-quality (48kHz stereo) songs.

Google did not disclose the pricing for Lyria RealTime prior to the API release.
