Recently, Meta announced enhancements to its Messenger platform, introducing high-definition video calling and noise reduction capabilities. Additional features like AI-powered backgrounds are also set to be implemented, all aimed at elevating the user experience and positioning Messenger alongside other leading video communication applications on smartphones.
Under Wi-Fi connections, the high-definition video calling feature will be activated by default. Users also have the option to enable this functionality when utilizing their cellular data plans through the "Call Settings" menu. Moreover, the app offers options to adjust noise suppression levels and switch audio output during calls. Meta has also introduced the capability for users to leave voice or video messages within Messenger.
For years, applications such as Google Meet, Zoom, and FaceTime have included some of these features. Regarding AI-generated backgrounds, Zoom and Google Meet have been utilizing them for some time. To use AI backgrounds in Messenger, users simply need to click on the effects icon in the call sidebar and enter their requirements in the prompt box, allowing Meta's AI to create a suitable background. Furthermore, Meta has rolled out AI image generation capabilities across Messenger chats, Facebook, and Instagram platforms.
Lastly, Meta has integrated hands-free calling and messaging functionalities with Apple's Siri voice assistant. When users instruct Siri to make a call or send a text message and append "using Messenger" to their command, Siri will default to using Meta’s application instead of Apple's native apps to perform the task.
