OpenAI Partners with Oracle and SoftBank to Build Five New Stargate Data Centers

2025-09-24

On Tuesday, OpenAI announced its plans to construct five new AI data centers across the United States through its Stargate initiative, in collaboration with Oracle and SoftBank. These facilities will bring Stargate’s total planned capacity to seven gigawatts—enough to power over five million households.

Three of the new sites are being developed in partnership with Oracle, located in Shackleford County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; and an undisclosed Midwest location. The remaining two centers are being built with SoftBank, situated in Loudonville, Ohio, and Milam County, Texas.

The new Stargate AI data centers are a key component of OpenAI’s large-scale infrastructure expansion, as the company works to train and deploy increasingly powerful AI models. Just one day earlier, OpenAI revealed it would receive a $100 billion investment from Nvidia to purchase the chipmaker’s AI processors and support further data center development.
