Anthropic Launches Research Tools and Google Workspace Integration

2025-04-16

Anthropic has recently unveiled two key features: research tools and integration with Google Workspace.

The company states that its AI assistant, Claude, is now directly connected to Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Documents, transforming into a "frontline workplace assistant." Users no longer need to manually sift through countless emails, calendar invites, and documents to retrieve information. Claude can handle these tasks automatically, including "summarizing last week's meeting notes, identifying action items from follow-up email threads, and searching for relevant documents to gather more context." This positions Claude as a direct competitor to workplace AI assistants like Microsoft Copilot.

In addition, Claude has added a new research capability, which Anthropic claims will "revolutionize the way Claude searches for information and conducts reasoning." This feature was launched months after OpenAI and Google introduced similar tools (both named Deep Research). Unlike traditional AI search functions, Claude’s research capability employs an "agent-based" approach. After users submit a query to the chatbot, it performs "multiple interconnected searches." The search results come with citation details, enabling users to verify the information independently.

Scott White, Anthropic’s product lead, told The Verge that the company aims for each query to take between one to five minutes using the new research tool. White explained, "When users encounter a problem, they can collaborate with Claude to resolve it without disrupting their workflow."
