ChatGPT's Deep Research Tool Now Features Built-In Document Viewer for Direct Report Reading

2026-02-11

OpenAI is enhancing ChatGPT's Deep Research tool with a new full-screen viewer, allowing users to browse and navigate to specific sections of AI-generated reports. As demonstrated in a video shared by OpenAI, the built-in viewer enables opening a ChatGPT report in a separate window from the chat interface, displaying a table of contents on the left and a list of sources on the right.

Initially launched last year, Deep Research enables ChatGPT to search the web and compile comprehensive reports on chosen topics. With this latest update, users can direct ChatGPT to focus its research on specific websites and related applications.

Users can also monitor ChatGPT's progress in real-time, edit the scope of its research, or add new sources while the chatbot generates the report. Once the report is complete, it can be downloaded from the new viewer in various formats, including Markdown, Word, and PDF.

OpenAI stated that these new features will roll out to Plus and Pro users starting today, while subscribers to the ChatGPT Go tier and free users will receive the Deep Research update "in the coming days."
