Anthropic has recently enhanced its Claude AI assistant with new features, enabling users to have greater control over the chatbot's responses across various writing tasks. This update is available to all Claude AI users and allows them to train the AI to align with their personal communication styles or select predefined options to swiftly adjust the tone and level of detail in its replies.
This update aims to personalize the chatbot's responses, catering to specific application needs such as drafting detailed technical documents or composing professional emails.
The new functionality offers three preset styles: a formal style for generating clear and concise text, a succinct style for brief and direct responses, and an explanatory style suited for educational replies that require additional details. If these presets do not meet user requirements, Claude can also be trained using example content that reflects the user's preferred communication method to create a custom style.
Scott White, the product lead for Claude, stated in an announcement that users may require different types of responses in various contexts—for instance, seeking in-depth explanations when learning new information or expecting direct answers when pressed for time. He also mentioned that users might want Claude to adopt a more formal tone in certain situations while using a friendly and casual tone in others. Currently, users can set these preferences to ensure each interaction meets their expectations.
While this update has been well-received for enhancing user experience, Anthropic is not alone in this space. OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini also offer similar features, allowing users to customize responses according to their individual writing styles. For example, Gemini can quickly adjust the tone and detail level of Gmail drafts. Additionally, Apple Intelligence's writing tools provide comparable preset style options.
