Google Meet to Generate AI Notes for In-Person Meetings

2026-04-23

According to an initial report by 9to5Google, Google’s AI meeting assistant, Gemini, has expanded beyond the confines of Google Meet. The tool now automatically transcribes and summarizes in-person discussions while fully integrating with third-party platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Previously restricted to Android Alpha testers, the face-to-face recording capability is now widely accessible. Google’s official support documentation notes that users can seamlessly switch to a standard video call if remote attendees need to join. The feature is also optimized for ad-hoc discussions, allowing users to initiate recordings without pre-booking a conference room or joining a scheduled calendar event.

To activate the feature, users simply tap “Take notes for me” on the Google Meet dashboard via mobile or desktop, regardless of whether the session takes place offline or on an external platform. Once captured, Gemini generates a structured meeting recap and a list of action items directly within Google Docs. These files are automatically saved to the initiator’s Google Drive for easy access and future reference.
