Layer Raises $6.5 Million for AI-Powered Video Game Creation Tool

2025-05-15

Layer AI, a platform offering AI-driven tools tailored for video game asset creation, has announced the successful completion of its seed funding round, raising $6.5 million.

The company provides game developers with specialized tools that enable rapid creation, management, and optimization of 2D, 3D, and video assets, drastically cutting down content generation time."While many are focusing on single solutions, we believe the most effective way to apply AI models in gaming is through a multimodal, tool-agnostic platform,"explained Volkan Gurel, co-founder and CEO.

Gurel added that Layer AI has become a top choice for mobile gaming companies. Since its launch in 2023, the platform has attracted over 200 studios, including notable names like Zynga, Tripledot Studios, SciPlay, Huuuge Games, and Machine Zone.

Layer’s tools focus on the production and delivery of generative game art, empowering professionals to streamline workflows by creating reusable in-game assets such as items, objects, or environments. These can also be adapted for scene rendering, live service content, and marketing materials in line with a company’s branding.

"The Layer team deeply understands gaming and possesses the vision and drive to establish a new industry standard, revolutionizing how world-class studios approach game development using AI,"noted Akin Babayigit, co-founder of Tripledot and an investor.

The adoption of AI has sparked significant transformation in video game development, from the rise of AI assistants to advanced asset creation tools.Coplay, an AI assistant designed for game developers, raised $1.2 million in December to build an AI solution integrated into Unity, working directly with developers. Similarly, Google has highlighted how the industry is embracing AI-powered tools for game testing and creating "dynamic games" that adapt storylines based on player choices.

This funding round was led by Arcadia and an investment vehicle linked to Riccardo Zacconi, co-founder of King.com Ltd., with participation from existing investor E2.vc."Layer is the first solution I’ve seen that offers developers the simplest way to integrate AI into their production pipelines,"stated Zacconi.

With this new capital, Layer plans to expand its team and introduce additional features to support a broader range of gaming experiences.
