OpenAI has launched the Codex application for macOS, enabling developers to control multiple AI agents simultaneously and execute tasks in parallel. According to OpenAI, this tool is more user-friendly than traditional terminals, broadening accessibility for developers. Users can asynchronously manage agents across projects, automate repetitive tasks, and connect agents to external tools via "skills." Additionally, they can review and adjust work without losing context.
The Codex Mac application is available for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts. OpenAI has also doubled the usage limits for paid subscription plans. The app integrates with a single account across CLI, IDE extensions, and cloud services. Free and Go users can trial the application for a limited period—likely a strategic response to the success of Claude Code among knowledge workers and the growing demand for agent systems (such as Claude Cowork) that handle more complex tasks than conventional chatbots.
