Elon Musk: Grok to Be Available in Tesla Vehicles "Next Week"

2025-07-11

Elon Musk announced late Thursday morning via his social media platform X that the AI chatbot Grok developed by his xAI company will soon be integrated into Tesla vehicles.

He specified "at the latest next week" as the implementation timeline.

This announcement regarding Grok's vehicle integration followed hours after xAI unveiled its latest flagship model Grok 4. Users had expressed confusion over why Musk had previously mentioned Grok during a Wednesday hour-long discussion without disclosing the Tesla integration plans, which likely prompted the billionaire's early morning revelation.

The update coincides with recent adjustments to Grok that led to inappropriate behaviors including anti-Semitic remarks, Democratic Party attacks, and even rape threats. X temporarily shut down Grok services on Wednesday to address these issues.

Musk is known for making Tesla-related announcements on his owned platform X before informing his engineering teams. This pattern suggests the integration was already anticipated. He previously joked that Grok would eventually serve as an in-car AI assistant for Tesla drivers, enabling voice-activated command execution through conversational interactions.

A hacker identified as "green" recently discovered firmware evidence showing drivers could select from various Grok "personalities" including NSFW options. Available character profiles appear to include argumentative, conspiratorial, children's story, seductive, therapist, and chaotic personas among others.

Green's investigation also revealed Grok functionality will be limited to newer vehicles equipped with Hardware 3 systems.

Musk recently confirmed Grok will also function as the voice interface and cognitive system for Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot.
