Fitbit Launches New App with Gemini-Powered Health Coach for Premium Users

2025-10-28

Fitbit has launched its new Gemini-powered Health Coach—first announced in August—as a public preview for Premium subscribers on Android in the U.S., available starting tomorrow. An iOS rollout is planned for later this year.

As the AI race heats up, Google aims to differentiate Fitbit with the help of its Gemini AI assistant. Dubbed “Coach,” this feature is designed to serve as your all-in-one fitness trainer, sleep guide, and wellness advisor.

During the recent Made by Google event, the company showcased several Coach capabilities, such as generating personalized workout plans based on your goals, preferences, and compatible devices.

For instance, if your goal is to run longer distances without getting winded, Coach creates a tailored fitness program with actionable advice and achievable milestones. It dynamically adjusts your plan in real time based on your feedback to keep you on track. Should you sustain an injury a week into training, the AI will automatically adapt your regimen accordingly.

Additional features include analyzing your sleep patterns and offering data-driven insights to help you gradually improve sleep quality over time.

While the Coach is the centerpiece, the Fitbit app itself has also been redesigned with a cleaner, more intuitive interface organized around four main tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health.

Google released a demonstration video on its Made by Google YouTube channel detailing each tab’s functionality. The Today tab acts as the central hub, highlighting key metrics such as weekly cardio load and other relevant stats for quick reference. Users can manually customize which metrics appear here at any time.

The Fitness tab houses your workout plans and essential indicators like cardio goals and average weekly steps. Note, however, that certain features—including nutrition tracking and menstrual cycle logging—are not yet available.

The Sleep tab enables detailed tracking of your sleep patterns, now enhanced with AI-powered Coach insights to support better rest. At the bottom of the tab, a sleep summary consolidates all key details from the previous night—such as whether you experienced prolonged awakenings.

Finally, the Health tab focuses on vital signs, offering quick access to metrics like respiratory rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), and resting heart rate for a comprehensive health snapshot.

To access the Coach preview on Android, users need an active Fitbit Premium subscription along with a compatible Fitbit smartwatch, tracker, or Pixel Watch.
