Google has begun rolling out its Gemini AI assistant to Wear OS devices, nearly two months after initial hints emerged in May. The tech giant also unveiled new features for Circle to Search, integrating its AI models directly into this functionality and expanding support for gaming-related queries. The Gemini platform will arrive on Wear OS 4+ smartwatches from Google's Pixel series, Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi within the coming weeks. This advancement marks a pivotal shift in Google's wearable ecosystem, aiming to deliver a unified AI experience. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series is expected to be among the first devices preloaded with Gemini. On these smartwatches, users can interact with Gemini through multiple intuitive methods. Activation is possible via voice command "Hey Google," pressing the side button, or tapping the Gemini app icon on the watch face. This hands-free design offers significant advantages in practical scenarios. As detailed in an official blog post, imagine a user preparing a meal with dirty hands asking: "What temperature and duration should I set for roasting sliced vegetables?" Similarly, someone might inquire before leaving home: "Should I bring an umbrella today?" to check immediate weather conditions. This development enables users to access powerful AI directly from their wrists, performing complex tasks previously requiring smartphones. From managing busy schedules to extracting specific information from emails or setting contextual reminders, Gemini's advanced natural language processing facilitates smoother, more conversational interactions. The integration may also strengthen Google's competitive position against Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, and other industry players. "Wear OS smartwatches will now begin receiving Google's personal AI assistant Gemini, including devices from Pixel, Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi," stated Jaime Williams, Wear OS product manager, in the blog post. "By using the same advanced AI models that make Gemini so effective on phones, you now have a consistent, intelligent assistant at your wrist. This allows managing tasks and accessing information in a more natural, intelligent, and capable way without pulling out your phone. To start conversations with Gemini, simply say 'Hey Google,' press the side button, or tap the Gemini app icon on your watch screen." Recent updates also enable users to execute complex cross-app tasks. Examples include requesting Gemini to summarize emails, add events to calendars, and more. The AI assistant currently supports processing and executing data from various Google services like Gmail and Google Calendar. Users can also leverage Gemini's memory function to store and retrieve specific information where applicable. These features aim to simplify daily interactions between users and AI assistants. Google is also enhancing its Circle to Search functionality for more seamless information retrieval.
