OpenAI is launching a "ChatGPT for Teachers," a free AI chatbot tailored specifically for U.S.-certified K–12 educators. The initiative will run through June 2027 and features a secure workspace that, according to the company, does not use user data for model training by default. OpenAI reports that teachers are already saving time on lesson planning and other routine tasks.

The platform complies with U.S. privacy regulations such as FERPA and grants educators access to the GPT-5.1 Turbo model, along with integrations with Canva and Google Drive. School administrators can centrally manage and distribute licenses. Additionally, OpenAI is collaborating with organizations like the American Federation of Teachers to support educators in effectively leveraging this technology.
