Brave Updates AI-Powered Search with Enhanced Answer Feature

Brave, a browser developer and alternative to Google Search, announced on Monday a new feature for its AI-powered search suite Ask Brave, aimed at delivering more detailed topic-based responses to user queries.

The search company explained that this new feature will operate alongside its existing AI Answers tool, which was launched last year to provide concise summaries to search questions. Brave reports that it delivers over 15 million AI-generated answers every day.

Users don’t need to switch into a separate mode to access Ask Brave. The search engine automatically detects the nature of the query and responds accordingly.

You can start an Ask Brave search by clicking the “Ask” button located next to the Brave search bar. Alternatively, you can switch a regular search query into an AI-powered one by selecting the Ask tab on the results page. If Brave is your default search engine, appending double question marks (“??”) to your query will trigger an Ask Brave search.

“While AI Answers offers quick summaries to our users, Ask Brave delivers extended responses, follow-up questions, and an enhanced deep-research chat mode. Most importantly, it provides contextually rich content such as videos, news articles, products, businesses, and shopping options—right when and where they’re needed,” said Josep M. Pujol, Brave’s Head of Search, in a statement. “Search makes it all possible, and the LLM holds it together. We expect Ask Brave to generate millions more AI-powered answers daily through this powerful combination of search and chat, and we look forward to rolling out even more helpful AI-driven search tools for our users.”

The format of the answers generated by Ask Brave closely resembles reports from platforms like ChatGPT or Perplexity, including carousels of links, videos, and images. Once an answer is provided, users can ask the AI to reformat the response or pose follow-up questions.

Brave stated that it uses its own APIs to ensure the accuracy of search results and to perform in-depth analysis for specific queries.

AI-powered question-and-answer systems are increasingly becoming part of the search experience. Google has expanded its AI Overviews feature to multiple languages, including a recent global rollout for Spanish. Brave’s offering is similar but comes with a privacy-focused message: the company claims it encrypts user chats and deletes them after 24 hours of inactivity.
