Mozilla Announces AI-Powered "Windows" for Firefox

2025-11-17

Another day, another AI-powered browser—this time from Firefox, which Mozilla describes as its “independent browser.” Firefox is developing a new AI browsing feature called AI Window, which will include an AI assistant and chatbot. The company refers to it as an opt-in “space for intelligence and user control,” currently being built openly based on user feedback.

In September, the company introduced the “Shake-to-Summarize” feature in Firefox, using AI to generate summaries of webpages opened on iPhone devices. Mozilla positions itself as a trusted browsing provider that empowers users to choose whether—and how much—to engage with artificial intelligence.

On its corporate blog, Mozilla stated: “While others are building AI experiences that trap you in conversational loops, we see a different path—one where AI acts as a trusted companion, enhancing your browsing experience and guiding you toward the broader web.”

AI Window will become one of three distinct browsing experiences available to Firefox users, alongside Private Window and Classic Window. In a post to the Mozilla Connect forum on Thursday, the company noted that users will be able to select their preferred AI model within AI Window, though few additional details were provided.
