According to a report by Axios, Meta is splitting its AI division into two new teams. The company’s AI staff will now be assigned to either the AI Products team or the AGI Foundations unit. This restructuring does not appear to involve any layoffs.
The AI Products team will focus on consumer-facing initiatives, such as developing AI features for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as well as Meta's new standalone AI applications.
The AGI Foundations unit will concentrate on broader tasks, including enhancing its Llama models.
As OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic make their moves, Meta is striving to keep pace with its competitors. Recently, the company launched the Llama Startup Program to encourage startups to use its products for generative AI applications. Additionally, Meta showcased its competitive edge against OpenAI during the LlamaCon event in April.
