Puppy-Eyed Robotic Arm Just One of Lenovo's New Desktop AI Concepts

Beyond introducing new laptop concepts and a range of actual products, Lenovo leveraged MWC to launch two AI-driven productivity companion concepts. Both are standalone desktop devices designed to enhance efficiency while offering office workers a unique form of artificial companionship.

Described by Lenovo as an "always-on desktop partner," the AI Workmate concept resembles a miniature robotic arm on a rotatable base, featuring a protruding screen that displays expressive eyes. Although less appealing than a human colleague, it enables interaction via voice commands and gestures like a smart assistant, powered by local AI processing.

The Workmate concept also assists with "practical business tasks." Equipped with a camera below the screen, it can scan notes and documents to generate summaries, organize ideas, or automatically convert them into presentations. For sharing content, the device includes a projector to display files on your desk or nearby walls.

Lenovo's AI Work Companion concept adopts a different approach to AI assistance. Resembling a bedside alarm clock with a large screen, its core function is not to wake you but to use AI to "sync tasks and schedules across user devices, generating a balanced daily plan." To help prevent burnout, the Work Companion monitors screen time, suggests breaks throughout the day, engages with animated facial expressions for fun interactions, and celebrates weekends with task completion reports.

Additionally, it functions as a docking station, connecting laptops to multiple monitors via HDMI, offering numerous USB ports, charging other devices, and reducing desktop clutter.

Lenovo has a solid track record of turning concept devices into real products. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, featuring a retractable rollable screen, was released last year. However, the company has not yet confirmed whether these two concepts will make it to market.
