Nvidia Becomes World's Most Valuable Company Thanks to AI Chip Business

2024-11-21

Recently, Nvidia has surpassed Microsoft and Apple to become the world's most valuable company by market capitalization, driven by its strong performance in the AI chip sector. In its latest Q3 2025 financial report, Nvidia announced record-breaking revenues and profits from its AI operations, indicating that this is just the beginning.

Despite reports suggesting potential cooling issues with Nvidia's new flagship product, the Blackwell AI server, the company did not address these concerns during the recent earnings call. Instead, Nvidia assured investors that Blackwell has entered full-scale production and is being advanced at maximum speed. The company also announced plans to deliver increased quantities of the chip each upcoming quarter.

Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress stated that Nvidia has delivered 13,000 Blackwell samples to clients this quarter. Meanwhile, CEO Jensen Huang claimed that Blackwell's success has reached the billions and assured investors, "Blackwell is performing exceptionally well across all systems being developed."

Historically recognized as a leader in graphics and gaming, and a pioneer in the GPU sector, Nvidia's data center business now significantly surpasses its other operations. Currently, the gaming division contributes only $2-3 billion in quarterly revenue, while its AI-driven data center segment generated $30.7 billion in the last quarter, constituting the majority of its $35 billion quarterly income.

Nvidia has also shown impressive profit growth, reporting $14.8 billion in the first quarter, $16.6 billion in the second quarter, and $19.3 billion in the third quarter. In contrast, Microsoft's and Apple's profits in the last quarter were $24.7 billion and $21.4 billion, respectively.

Although Nvidia's competitor AMD still lags significantly in the scale of its AI operations, the company is undergoing similar transformations and adjusting its strategies to focus on AI. Both Nvidia and AMD have accelerated their development processes, committing to releasing new chips annually instead of every two years to meet the growing AI demands.

Practically, this entails significant overlap during the ordering and deployment of each new chip generation into data centers. Although Blackwell is Nvidia's latest and most powerful product, the company stated today that the H200, announced last year, has actually become its best-selling product ever, generating billions in sales in the last quarter alone.

Jensen Huang noted that Nvidia's initial AI flagship, the H100, took more time to achieve its current success, but the company anticipates continued demand for the H-series chips throughout most of next year.

Meanwhile, Intel's performance in the AI sector lags significantly, and the company is currently undergoing a restructuring process.
