Airtable, known for its no-code application and workflow-building platform, has recently unveiled a range of new tools designed to help organizations across various sectors leverage artificial intelligence (AI) more seamlessly. These initiatives reflect Airtable's deeper investment in the AI landscape.
Among the newly launched products are App Library and HyperDB. App Library is a tool for deploying custom-developed applications integrated with AI models, while HyperDB paves the way for businesses to create workflows that incorporate vast datasets from platforms like Databricks and Snowflake.
Airtable offers a cloud-based "Digital Operations Platform" that supports teams in storing, organizing, and collaboratively managing structured data. The platform is renowned for its real-time database capabilities and is often hailed as a "supercharged spreadsheet." Its user-friendly interface allows anyone to create databases within minutes without any knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL).
Last year, Airtable introduced its AI tools aimed at simplifying the integration of generative AI into no-code applications and business workflows for enterprises, without requiring any technical background. The newly released features build upon this foundation, seeking to make the large language models (LLM) behind generative AI more accessible to everyday workers.
According to Airtable co-founder and CEO, Howie Liu, the new tools aim to strike a balance between standardized and customized applications. App Library provides a straightforward framework for building standardized business applications embedded with AI functionalities, customizable by various business departments. Liu likens App Library to a "Lego set," emphasizing its goal of enabling non-developer professionals to effortlessly leverage LLM technology.
Conversely, HyperDB enables users to easily develop customized AI applications and workflows while integrating data from platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake. By ensuring data governance and adherence to industry standards, HyperDB allows users to import millions of records into Airtable and utilize them within their organization, facilitating more informed decision-making based on cross-functional key insights.
Additionally, Airtable has introduced the "Organization Brand Customization" feature, which allows users to personalize the platform's branding and logos, as well as the "App Sandbox" feature, used for creating, testing, and customizing no-code applications within a secure environment before deployment.
Airtable disclosed that one of its clients—a leading streaming company—has utilized the new tools to create an automated content type classification application, saving the team approximately 280 hours of work each week.
