According to reports, Gemini is set to release a standalone iOS application in the near future. A user in the Philippines successfully downloaded the app, indicating that Google is conducting a pilot rollout in that region. Previously, iOS users could only access the service by navigating to the Gemini section within the Google Search app. The newly launched standalone app will enable users to add the Gemini icon directly to their iPhone home screen and provide access to Gemini Live voice mode.
Although Gemini has been available as a separate app on the Android platform, the iOS version remained integrated within the Google Search app. The introduction of the standalone application signifies a more convenient way for users to access Gemini's features, including quickly launching the app via the home screen icon and utilizing Live Activity for background operations. Currently, the app is not visible in the US App Store, suggesting that Google may be selecting specific countries or regions for testing before expanding its release gradually.
Furthermore, the existing iOS version of Gemini offers functionality comparable to the web version at gemini.google.com, but its user interface has not been updated to match the Android counterpart. The launch of the standalone app is expected to expedite feature updates and optimization processes. It is also noteworthy that Google Assistant remains a separate application on Apple's platform.
