Google TV is set to receive a major upgrade to its Gemini AI, making the virtual assistant more functional and visually engaging. The standout feature is the integration of Nano Banana and Veo support, enabling users to generate AI-powered images and videos directly on their television. This could range from humorously altering family photos to creating custom video clips labeled as "original" content—though how truly original AI-generated material can be remains up for debate.
These creative tools will work in tandem with Gemini to search through your Google Photos library, automatically compiling stylized slideshows based on specific life events. Responses from Gemini will become more visual overall, incorporating image or video context, live sports scores, and detailed “deep dive” summaries complete with narrated interactive elements on topics of your choosing.
If this sounds entertaining but not immediately practical, that’s fair. However, Google is also adding new voice-controlled capabilities to Gemini. You’ll now be able to say things like “the screen is too dark” or “I can’t hear the dialogue,” and Gemini will automatically adjust display brightness or volume settings accordingly. Someday soon, you might even glare at the screen and shout, “Wait, what?” prompting Google to rewind and activate hidden subtitles—just like in the cartoons.
The enhanced version of Gemini for Google TV will first roll out to select TCL models, with broader availability across additional Google TV devices expected within the coming months.
