CoreStory, a startup specializing in code intelligence platforms, has launched an AI-powered solution designed to transform legacy code into a strategic asset for continuous innovation.
The company aims to address what it describes as the “problem of aging legacy applications and systems,” where enterprises are modernizing, managing, and maintaining outdated software systems to align with digital and cloud-based infrastructures. CoreStory claims that many organizations lack proper documentation or blueprints for application development.
The CoreStory Code Intelligence Platform is built to uncover and visualize the hidden business logic, requirements, and architectural designs embedded within legacy codebases. Using advanced AI techniques like recursive decomposition and recomposition, the platform breaks down large codebases into manageable units and reconstructs a validated holistic view of the software system.
The company's process begins by generating what CoreStory calls a “smart model” of the existing application. This model captures business requirements, rules, workflows, technical dependencies, and architectural insights, serving as a queryable source of truth about how the system actually functions—particularly valuable when documentation is missing or outdated.
The platform supports multiple key use cases, particularly in legacy application modernization and maintenance.
For legacy application modernization, the platform enables organizations to fully understand existing systems to confidently migrate, refactor, or re-architect them. For application maintenance and enhancement, it helps teams navigate the codebase more efficiently, understand dependencies, and make safe changes without triggering unintended regressions.
CoreStory's platform also accommodates AI-generated code while mitigating the risks of black-box systems. By integrating new code from AI assistants or large language models into its smart model, the platform eliminates blind spots and maintains clarity, ensuring future teams can easily understand the original intent behind the code, not just the final output.
“Traditionally, modernization projects have been carried out by experts reviewing code line by line, often taking 18 months or more,” said Anand Kulkarni, founder and CEO. “Our AI-driven approach empowers companies to rethink requirements within code and applications, enabling the addition of more features and capabilities. CoreStory lowers the barrier to entry and delivers significant cost savings for enterprises.”
Although officially launching today, CoreStory previously operated under the name Crowdbotics Inc. In a LinkedIn post, the company explained that the rebranding “is more than just a new name—it reflects our mission and vision. The new name encapsulates what we do best: uncover the core stories hidden within every codebase and turn them into actionable intelligence that accelerates innovation.”
Data from Tracxn shows that CoreStory has raised $68 million through four funding rounds, including a $40 million round in January 2023. Investors include New Enterprise Associates Inc., Harrison Metal Capital, Jackson Square Ventures, The House Fund, Homebrew, and Cooley LLP.
