Amazon Says Alexa Plus Can Find That Movie Scene You're Looking For

Amazon has introduced a new AI-powered feature for Fire TV that enables users to jump directly to specific moments in movies by describing scenes to Alexa Plus. First unveiled at Amazon’s hardware event in September, the feature works with Prime Video and builds upon the existing X-Ray functionality, which provides contextual information about on-screen content.

“Getting you to the content you want to watch as quickly as possible is our top priority for Fire TV,” Amazon stated in its announcement. “Just describe a movie scene as if you were telling a friend, and Alexa Plus will take you straight to that exact moment—no more searching required.”

According to Amazon, the Alexa Plus capability “understands descriptions of scenes, character names, and famous lines, supporting thousands of Prime Video movies.” Users can navigate to specific moments by referencing characters, actors, locations, or memorable quotes—such as asking for “the card scene in Love Actually” or “the scene where Joshua says, ‘Wanna play a game?’”

The feature is designed to make locating and replaying favorite scenes faster and easier than manually scrubbing through a film, potentially reducing the need for Fire TV users to search for clips on external platforms like YouTube. Amazon notes that the system leverages multiple AI models—including Amazon Nova and Anthropic’s Claude—to identify scenes even when the movie title isn’t mentioned in the request.

Currently, the Fire TV functionality is limited to indexed scenes from movies available for purchase or rental on Prime Video, as well as titles included with a Prime membership. Amazon says the feature will soon expand to cover more scenes and TV shows.
