Google Launches AI-Powered "Flight Deals" Tool Globally and Adds New Travel Features to Search

Google has unveiled new AI-powered features in Search to assist users with booking and planning trips. The tech giant is expanding the reach of its AI capabilities, enhancing tools like “Flight Deals” and enabling more users to access agent-assisted booking through the AI-powered “Canvas” workspace.

Initially launched in August in the U.S., Canada, and India, Flight Deals is now being rolled out globally within Google Flights. This AI-driven search tool helps travelers quickly discover affordable destinations by analyzing user preferences.

Users simply describe where they’d like to go, when they plan to travel, and their preferred travel style—the Flight Deals tool then leverages AI to surface the best available offers.

Flight Deals is now available in over 200 countries and regions worldwide, including the UK, France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea, with support for more than 60 languages.

Regarding the new AI Mode enhancements, Google says users can now leverage the built-in Canvas tool to craft detailed travel itineraries. Originally introduced as a side-panel workspace for organizing study plans and multi-session information, Canvas has evolved to support trip planning.

Users just need to tell AI Mode what kind of trip they’re envisioning and select the “Create with Canvas” option.

“Soon, you’ll get a tailored itinerary in the Canvas sidebar that pulls together real-time flight and hotel search data, photos and reviews from Google Maps, and relevant insights from across the web,” Google explained in a blog post. “You’ll receive recommendations that match your criteria—like hotel comparisons based on price and amenities, or suggestions for restaurants and activities optimized around your lodging location.”

Users can then ask follow-up questions to refine choices—for instance, picking a hotel closer to a desired brunch spot even if it’s slightly farther from a hiking trail they want to explore.

Travel planning via Canvas is currently available on desktop in the U.S. for users enrolled in the Labs AI Mode experiment.

Additionally, Google announced broader availability of AI Mode’s agent capabilities. Earlier this year, Labs participants gained access to AI-assisted booking for restaurants, event tickets, and wellness appointments. Now, this functionality is being extended to all U.S. users.

Users can request dinner reservations based on multiple preferences—including party size, date, time, location, and cuisine type. AI Mode scans various reservation platforms to identify real-time availability and presents a curated list of matching options.

Looking ahead, Google plans to enable direct booking of flights and hotels within AI Mode. Users will be able to describe their travel needs, compare options, and browse details such as schedules, pricing, room photos, amenities, and reviews—all without leaving the AI interface.
