Google Brings Gemini to Google TV Streaming Devices

Google announced on Monday that it is rolling out Gemini to Google TV streaming devices, replacing Google Assistant. The tech giant stated this shift will allow users to access content and other features through voice commands in a more natural and conversational way.

For instance, users can now ask questions like, “I enjoy dramas, but my wife prefers comedies—what movies can we watch together?” when seeking recommendations.

They can also quickly catch up on shows they’re rewatching by asking queries such as, “What happened at the end of the last season of ‘Outlander’?” In another example, Google noted users might even ask, “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?”

According to Google, Gemini on TV isn’t limited to entertainment—users can ask the AI assistant any kind of question, just as they would on their smartphones.

For example, parents can bring learning to the big screen by asking Gemini, “Explain to my third grader why volcanoes erupt.” Google also highlighted that Gemini can guide users through DIY projects or cooking recipes using YouTube videos.

To access Gemini on Google TV streaming devices, users simply need to press the microphone button on their remote.

Google said the update will be rolled out to users aged 18 and older over the coming weeks.

This move follows Google’s September announcement that it was bringing Gemini to select TCL TVs with Google TV. At the time, the company indicated that later this year, Gemini would become available on 2025 Hisense U7, U8, and UX models, as well as 2025 TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models.

In addition to Google TV streaming devices, Gemini is also accessible on Walmart’s Onn 4K Pro streaming stick.
