Last December marked the end of Pat Gelsinger's 40-year tenure as Intel's CEO, sparking widespread curiosity about his next career chapter. On Thursday, the former semiconductor industry leader revealed part of his post-Intel vision: advancing AI alignment with human flourishing values.
Gelsinger co-founded an initiative called Flourishing AI (FAI) through Gloo, a faith-based tech company where he served as an initial investor. This benchmark framework is built upon the Global Flourishing Study - a longitudinal research project led by Harvard and Baylor Universities measuring worldwide human well-being metrics.
The FAI evaluation system integrates six core prosperity dimensions identified in the research - character virtues, intimate relationships, life satisfaction, purpose discovery, physical/mental health, and financial stability - while adding a unique category for testing large language models' alignment with spiritual and faith values.
During an interview with The New Stack, Gelsinger emphasized his lifelong commitment to "operating at the intersection of faith and technology," a philosophy that now drives his AI ethics work at Gloo.
