Google's parent company Alphabet revealed its second-quarter financial performance for 2025, reporting record revenue of $96.42 billion for the three months ending June 2025 - a 14% increase from $84.7 billion in Q2 2024. The company generated $31.27 billion in operating income and $28.19 billion in net income, both showing year-over-year improvements. Earnings per diluted share reached $2.31 for the quarter.
“We delivered an exceptional quarter with robust growth across all aspects of the business. Our leadership in AI is accelerating at an incredible pace, positively impacting every business unit and driving momentum. Search business achieved double-digit revenue growth with strong performance from AI Overview and AI Mode features. YouTube and subscription services continued their solid momentum while cloud business demonstrated strong growth in revenue, backlogs and profitability, now exceeding $50 billion annualized run rate. With increasing demand for our cloud products and services, we plan to raise capital expenditures to approximately $85 billion in 2025 and remain excited about future opportunities,” stated CEO Sundar Pichai in an official statement.
YouTube advertising revenue specifically rose to $9.79 billion, surpassing the $8.66 billion recorded in Q2 2024 and analyst forecasts of $9.6 billion. The platform continues to gain television ad budget share as Nielsen data shows YouTube maintained 12.4% of total TV viewing time for three consecutive months. Digital advertising revenue totaled $71.34 billion, up 10.4% from $64.61 billion year-over-year.
Google Cloud reported $13.62 billion in revenue (32% YoY growth), exceeding $10.35 billion in Q2 2024. The "Google Subscriptions, Platforms & Devices" category generated $11.2 billion (up from $9.31 billion) while the "Other Bets" division - including Waymo autonomous vehicle projects - produced $373 million in revenue versus $365 million in Q1 2024, though the segment recorded a $1.24 billion loss (worsening from $1.12 billion in Q1 losses).
Search division revenue reached $54.19 billion for the quarter. Alphabet also noted its AI-driven search product AI Overview now boasts over 2 billion monthly active users across 200+ countries/regions, up from 1.5 billion in the previous quarter. Gemini application serving AI chatbots has crossed 450 million monthly active users with daily request volumes increasing over 50% compared to Q1.
As expected, AI served as the catalyst for Alphabet's Q2 revenue growth, permeating all business segments. Google's core search business - the primary revenue generator - experienced double-digit growth through AI integration. AI Overview, providing AI-generated search result summaries, rapidly expanded reach now serving 2 billion+ monthly users across 200+ countries and 40 languages. Similarly, AI Mode - an AI-powered chat interface for search queries - achieves over 100 million monthly active users in the US and India. These features enhanced user engagement through complex information retrieval, particularly resonating with younger demographics by improving search experiences through AI advancements.
