Recent reports indicate that Meta has successfully recruited multiple senior researchers from OpenAI, prompting a high-ranking executive at the latter company to assure team members that leadership is not standing idle.
In a Slack memo obtained by Wired, OpenAI's Chief Research Officer Mark Chen expressed strong feelings about the situation, comparing it to "having someone break into our home and steal our belongings."
Addressing the apparent talent acquisition spree at Meta, Chen stated that he, CEO Sam Altman, and other OpenAI leaders have been "round-the-clock engaging with those who received offers," emphasizing that "we're being more proactive than ever. We're reevaluating compensation packages and exploring creative ways to identify and reward top-tier talent."
News outlets have reported that eight researchers left OpenAI for Meta over the past week. Altman even mentioned on a podcast that Meta's alleged $100 million signing bonuses were disputed internally by Meta executives.
