Quora's AI platform Poe unveiled an API on Thursday that enables developers to seamlessly integrate various models or bots into their own applications.
This API operates without additional fees, utilizing Poe's existing credit-based subscription plans for usage tracking. Each model call consumes specific credits - for instance, generating a 1:1 ratio low-quality image at 1024x1024 resolution via GPT-4o requires 328 credits.
Poe's current subscription tiers include $4.99/month (10,000 daily credits), $19.99/month (1 million monthly credits), $49.99/month (2.5 million), $99.99/month (5 million) and $249.99/month (12.5 million). Developers can also purchase 1 million additional credits for $30 without fixed plans.
Through this API, developers can support tools like Cursor, Cline, Continue, Roo, and any OpenAI-compatible chat completion APIs. The platform currently offers access to over 100 models spanning voice, text, image, and video generation.
Multimodal models include Imagen 4, GPT Image 1, Flux Kontext, Seedream 3.0, Veo 3, Runway Gen 4 Turbo, Kling 2.1, ElevenLabs, and Lyria.
"We're currently working to enable API access for private bots created on Poe," said Gareth Jones, Poe's founder and developer product lead in a TechCrunch interview. "We're also evaluating enhanced API key management systems."
While the API provides developers with diverse model access, Poe also offers consumer-facing tools. Earlier this year, the company introduced a streamlined approach for users to create AI-powered applications, complemented by templates for building server bots, prompt bots, and image generation bots.
Currently, developers must manually manage model usage. Jones noted the company plans to implement budget management features based on developer feedback.
