Apple's Siri Upgrade May Be Powered by Google Gemini Technology

According to a recent report, Apple's revamped Siri may incorporate an AI-powered web search tool powered by Google's Gemini technology. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman highlighted that the iPhone maker has faced criticism for lagging in the AI race, with the long-awaited Siri update now delayed until 2026. Meanwhile, Apple has been evaluating whether its own AI models are strong enough for the upgraded Siri to compete with AI answer engines from companies like OpenAI, Perplexity, and Google.

Bloomberg reports that Apple may be turning to Google to help address this challenge. The publication states that Apple and Google have reportedly reached a formal agreement this week, under which Apple will test Google's AI model within Siri. If successful, the technology could also be extended to other areas of iPhone software, including the Safari browser and Spotlight search on the home screen.

In recent years, Spotlight has appeared to accelerate its evolution into something of a rival to Google, allowing iPhone users to bypass web searches and access basic information on popular topics like actors, musicians, TV shows, and movies directly. However, with the emergence of AI chatbots, consumers can now receive answers on a wide range of topics much faster—going beyond what is available on Wikipedia.

The report suggests that the upgraded search experience will integrate text, images, video, and local points of interest into its interface, while also introducing an AI-driven summarization feature. It will also leverage user-specific data and enable voice-based navigation through devices.
