Anysphere, the company behind the AI coding assistant Cursor, has successfully raised $900 million at a valuation of $9.9 billion. According to Bloomberg, this funding round was led by existing investor Thrive Capital, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, and DST Global.
This substantial investment marks Anysphere's third funding round in less than a year. The three-year-old startup previously raised $100 million at a $2.5 billion valuation towards the end of last year, as first reported by TechCrunch.
AI-powered coding assistants, often referred to as "ambient coders," have emerged as one of the most popular applications in the artificial intelligence sector, with Cursor taking a leading position. A source familiar with the company's operations told TechCrunch that Anysphere's annual recurring revenue (ARR) approximately doubles every two months. Insider sources cited by Bloomberg indicate the company's ARR has now surpassed $500 million, representing a 60% increase from the $300 million figure we reported in mid-April.
Cursor offers developers tiered pricing options. Following a two-week free trial period, users can convert to paid plans, choosing between a $20 monthly professional subscription or a $40 monthly business plan.
Until recently, the majority of the company's revenue came from individual user subscriptions, according to Bloomberg. However, Anysphere has now introduced enterprise licenses, allowing companies to purchase the application for their teams at higher rates.
Earlier this year, the company received acquisition offers from OpenAI and other potential buyers, but Anysphere declined these proposals. Notably, the creator of ChatGPT reportedly acquired another rapidly growing AI assistant, Windsurf, for $3 billion.
