Google Launches AI-Powered Video Tool Called Flow

2025-05-21

On Tuesday, Google announced the launch of Flow, an AI-powered video tool specifically designed for filmmaking.

The company stated that this tool leverages three AI models—Veo for video generation, Imagen for image creation, and Gemini for text and prompts—to power the new offering.

Flow incorporates features from other tools, allowing users to import characters or scenes or create them within the platform. For instance, last year Google introduced VideoFX, a video generation tool under Google Labs. However, Flow is likely to reach a broader audience.

The new tool also offers functionalities such as camera control, which allows adjustments to the camera angle or view within a scene; a scene builder for editing or extending shots and guiding the flow of scenes; and asset management tools.

In addition, the company unveiled "Flow TV," a curated stream of clips and content where users can see the exact prompts behind each video to understand the creative process of others.

Startups like Moonvalley, D-ID, Cheehoo, and Hedra are also exploring video solutions in similar fields, aiming to provide people with access to certain filmmaking tools for creating AI-generated features. While Google's models have been used in many of these tools, Flow demonstrates that Google is also keen to enter the application layer of AI video generation.

Flow will initially be available to users in the U.S. through Google AI Pro and the new Google AI Ultra plans.

Pro users will have access to 100 generations per month, while Ultra users will enjoy a higher, though currently unspecified, limit along with access to Google’s latest video models.
