Google has unveiled new advancements in personalized features across its product suite today, introducing the AI Mode in Search. This AI-powered chatbot can search multiple webpages and deliver information in a conversational format.
The company is expanding this functionality to over 180 new countries and regions globally from today, with English-language service availability. AI Mode is already live in the US, UK and India.
Launched in March, AI Mode transforms traditional Google search results from standard link lists into interactive, personalized explanations. Users can ask follow-up questions about content to receive deeper insights with cited sources.
Google is adding new agent capabilities to AI Mode including restaurant reservations today. This feature will soon expand to local service bookings and event ticket purchases.
"For example, you can now ask for dinner reservations with friends including multiple constraints like party size, date, time, location and preferred cuisine - AI Mode will streamline this process," said Robby Stein, VP of Google Search.
AI Mode will automate the laborious task of searching multiple reservation platforms, finding real-time availability matching user needs and returning suitable dining options. When users are ready to complete bookings, it will directly link to the reservation page.
This process employs technology from Google's Project Mariner, an AI agent capable of browsing the web. It can control web browsers in the background, understand on-screen elements like links, text, code, buttons and forms, and interact with them in human-like ways.
Google is collaborating with major service providers including OpenTable, Resy Network Inc., Tock Inc., Ticketmaster Entertainment LLC, StubHub Holdings Inc., SeatGeek Inc. and Booksy Inc. to build this experience.
Enhanced Personalization for US Users
US users will now see personalized results based on their preferences and interests, according to Google.
Starting with dining preferences, users joining the AI Mode experiment in Google's labs will begin receiving more personalized responses. For example, if users ask "I have one hour for lunch, what recommendations do you have?" AI Mode will reference previous conversations and locations searched on Google Maps to provide tailored options.
Users can now share any content found through AI Mode with friends and family via link sharing (available in the US). A new "Share" button enables sending AI Mode chat threads for collaborative planning. Recipients can ask follow-up questions and continue the conversation, simplifying multi-party coordination.
Google added that senders can control shared links at any time and delete them if needed.
